You and your pet can have a doggone good time at the Howl-o-Ween 2: Electric Pupaloo event at the City of Bowie Dog Park in Bowie, Maryland.The event on Friday, Oct. 27, will run from 4 – 6 p.m.They’ll have treats for both humans and dogs, but the purpose of the event is to help pet owners in the community.“We’re going to be putting a pet pantry at the dog park,” said Officer Jessica Gaunt with the City of Bowie Animal Control Office. She said people are being asked to donate dog training tools to the pantry like collars, leashes, clickers, food and treats to support our pet owners. DENVER (KDVR) — A brand new study released earlier this week sheds light on the impact the Dobbs decision has had on states like Colorado.Many states that still offer legal access to reproductive health care are feeling a surge.The study done by the Society of Family Planning compared abortion volume data from April and May 2022 as the pre-Dobbs period, to data from the 12 months after — July 2022 through June 2023 – as the post-Dobbs period. The number of states where abortion has been completely banned increased from nine to 14 states in that same time period. Record number of abortions in Colorado last year due to out-of-state visitors The monthly average number of abortion procedures in Colorado was more than 1,600 pre-Dobbs and just over 2,100 post-Dobbs, according to the study. DENVER (KDVR) — Levitt Pavilion Denver, a nonprofit that offers free summer concerts, brought thousands of people together through music with another successful year.The venue operates on a mission to bridge cultural gaps and embrace differences in the community, and it does so by making live music available to all with free concerts, according to its website.This summer was the venue's sixth year of free summertime shows. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue (MDFR) rushed to tackle a raging house fire in Miami Springs. Although no injuries were reported, a dog inside the burning building died. The blaze broke out around 4:24 a.m. Thursday, off 36th Street and Northwest 32nd Avenue, when it engulfed the residence in heavy flames and thick smoke. One adult and three children living in the house were already outside when fire crews arrived. MDFR firefighters were seen in action, working to control the fire, with some scaling the roof to address the situation. The wind spread the flames, posing additional challenges for fire units who were on the scene. “Our units found heavy fire coming from the garage side of the house. The wind exasperated the fire, made it a little more difficult,” said Mark Chavers,MDFR Division Chief. “We had seven units respond to the fire. It’s a large house. Lewiston, Maine (WHDH) — The suspect in two mass shootings in Maine that left at least 16 people dead has experience with high-powered firearms, police warn in a message to area residents to stay in their homes and consider him “armed and dangerous.”Robert Card, 40, is a certified firearms instructor who is in the US Army Reserve and is assigned to a facility in Saco, Maine. Lisbon, MAINE (WHDH) – Residents in Lisbon, Maine have been warned to be on alert and stay in their homes after the vehicle belonging to a suspect in a series of mass shootings in nearby Lewiston was found in their town.Heavily armed police officers could be seen fanned out around the area after the vehicle belonging to Robert Card, 40, was found abandoned in the area of Main and Milk Street. NEW YORK (AP) — The number of Americans applying for jobless benefits rose last week but remains historically low as the labor market continues to show strength amid high interest rates and inflation.Jobless claim applications rose by 10,000 to 210,000 for the week ending Oct. 21, the Labor Department reported Thursday. The previous week’s applications were the fewest in eight months.Jobless claim applications are considered a proxy for layoffs.The four-week moving average of claims, which smooths out some of the week-to-week volatility, rose by 1,250 to 207,500.Overall, 1.79 million people were collecting unemployment benefits the week that ended Oct. 14, about 63,000 more than the previous week.
