By Kara Scannell | CNNDonald Trump urged a New York appeals court to continue to pause the gag order against him in his civil fraud trial, saying that threats to the judge and his law clerk do not “justify” limiting the former president’s constitutional right to defend himself.Lawyers for the New York attorney general’s office and the court last week urged the appeals court to put the gag order back in place following “serious and credible” threats that have inundated Judge Arthur Engoron’s chambers since the trial began in October.Trump’s attorneys wrote in a filing Monday that the former president has never threatened the judge or his principal law clerk and they can’t be held responsible for actions taken by others. They argued that Trump’s First Amendment right to criticize and call out his perception of bias by the judge and his law clerk without retribution is “essential” to maintaining public confidence in the trial.“At base, the disturbing behavior engaged in by anonymous, t...

SEATTLE (AP) — While he’s had one big game after another, Rome Odunze can see not all is right with the offense for No. 3 Washington. It hasn’t looked quite right since Odunze caught the winning touchdown to beat Oregon in October — the same team the Huskies will see in the Pac-12 championship game on Friday.“I think we need to clean a lot of things up,” Odunze said. “In several different moments we’re not able to execute and move the ball. It comes down to our attitude and effort on every single play and they need to improve immediately.”Ask around and you’ll get different answers from the Huskies about where things stand on the offensive side heading into a second meeting with the fifth-ranked Ducks.Odunze expressed his worries following Washington’s 24-21 win over Washington State on Saturday that completed the first 12-0 regular season in Pac-12 history even as the conference is ready to break apart. But it was also the second straight game and third in the past six that th...

But the way we’re playing, it’s got to be turned around,” coach Todd Bowles said after Sunday’s 27-20 loss at Indianapolis left the Bucs at 4-7.“It feels like we’re 10 games out, and we’re one game out,” Bowles added. “But we’ve got to play better. And we understand that as a unit.”It’s the second week in a row the Bucs have been unable to pick up ground in a race Tampa Bay is trying to win for the third straight season. At 5-6, the Falcons and Saints share the division lead.
