Will clouds ruin your view of the Oct. 14 solar eclipse?

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 18:31:39 GMT

(NEXSTAR) – Tens of millions in the Americas will have front-row seats for Saturday's rare “ring of fire” eclipse of the sun – but what viewers actually see will depend on how close they are to the path of the eclipse, and how clear the skies are on Oct. 14.What's called an annular solar eclipse — better known as a ring of fire — will briefly dim the skies over parts of the western U.S. and Central and South America. MAP: Where, when and how to get the best view of the 2023 annular eclipse As the moon lines up precisely between Earth and the sun, it will blot out all but the sun’s outer rim. A bright, blazing border will appear around the moon for as much as five minutes, wowing skygazers along a narrow path stretching from Oregon to Texas in the U.S.The celestial showstopper will yield a partial eclipse across the rest of the Western Hemisphere.A look at forecasted cloud coverage in the video player above (times are CT) shows that some vantage points along the path of annula...

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Today's 98.3 TRY Social Dilemma came from Andy and it's about Halloween decorations. Here's his email: Get the latest news, weather, sports and entertainment delivered right to your inbox! Hi Jaime. What do you think about this? Over the last week, I’ve become the most hated man in my neighborhood… and it’s all because of my love for Halloween. My love for the holiday is well known, and I’ve invested thousands of dollars over the last decade making sure I have the greatest house in our entire zip code. Now, people go out of their way to drive by the house, see the spooky decorations, look at the lights, check out the animatronics, and hear my new giant ogre yell at them. It’s freaking awesome. My neighbors, however, have let it be known how much they hate me around this time each year. I’ve set timers to shut things down at 9 p.m. each night, but it doesn’t seem to make things any better. I think 9pm is a fair time to turn things off. Don't you think they'...

Goldberg: The fracturing of the U.S. political left over Israel, Hamas

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 18:31:39 GMT

On Tuesday evening, I was drinking on the porch of my friend and neighbor Misha Shulman, the Israel-born rabbi of a progressive New York synagogue called the New Shul. All day, he’d been on the phone with congregants deeply distraught over the massacres and mass kidnappings in Israel. Of all the people he spoke to, he said, those most devastated were either people who had lost close friends or family, or young Jews “completely shattered by the response of their lefty friends in New York,” who were either justifying Hamas’ atrocities or celebrating them outright. This sense of deep betrayal is not limited to New York. Many progressive Jews have been profoundly shaken by the way some on the left are treating the terrorist mass murder of civilians as noble acts of anti-colonial resistance. These are Jews who share the left’s abhorrence of the occupation of Gaza and of the enormities inflicted on it, which are only going to get worse if and when Israel invades. But the way keyboard radic...
