LIVE: Tropical Storm Harold to make landfall in Texas today

AUSTIN (KXAN) -- Tropical Storm Harold officially formed in the western Gulf early Tuesday morning -- the ninth storm of the Atlantic hurricane season. The system currently has 45 mph sustained winds and is racing west/northwest at 18 mph. Harold is expected to come onshore late morning into the early afternoon between Corpus Christi and Brownsville. While the storm is intensifying, its quick forward motion will limit its time over the warm Gulf waters.Tropical Storm Warnings are in effect for the Texas coast from Port O'Connor southward to the mouth of the Rio Grande. A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect from Port O'Connor north to Sargent. Coastal Flood Warnings are also in place for affected areas.Only minor wind damage is expected along the coast, along with 1-3 feet of "storm surge" ocean level rise. AUSTIN (KXAN) -- Tropical systems bring various impacts - to land, infrastructure, and people. With the deadliest part of a storm being water (rainfall, flooding, storm surge, etc.), there are other, and sometimes more hidden, threats -- particularly for those with cardiovascular disease.Meteorologist Kristen Currie spoke with a doctor associated with the American Heart Association to learn more.Below is a transcript of their conversation. ST. LOUIS - Police say that prisoners took a 70-year-old guard hostage at the city Justice Center. They held him hostage for several hours. The initial call for help came around 6 a.m. The injured guard appears to have been released at around 8:30 a.m., but the standoff may not be over. Although the situation outside the building appears to be calming down.The guard was placed in an ambulance and taken to a hospital for treatment. The extent of his injuries is not yet clear. Officers say there is no riot happening. It's unknown if anyone has been injured. The guard was unarmed. A 90-year-old Greeley man with dementia has been reported missing after his wife noticed him and his vehicle missing from their home Monday.Keith Scritchfield was last seen Monday about 1:30 p.m. asleep at his residence in the 1600 block of 44th Avenue Court in Greeley. About 30 minutes later, his wife noticed Scritchfield was not home anymore and their vehicle, a 2011 Subaru Outback, was missing.Please share this senior alert for Keith Scritchfield. Residents in Ojai were struck by another strong aftershock, now two days after the area was hit by a 5.1 magnitude earthquake.
